Why You Will Love This
There is a moment on every safari when the whole jeep goes
quiet. Someone has spotted movement in the trees. You raise your camera, try to
find the subject, and just like that, it is gone. Or perhaps you catch it.
Either way, you begin to understand how much wildlife photography has to do
with patience, timing and learning where to look.
That is where our Sariska weekend begins. Not with a list of camera specifications or the expectation of a perfect tiger photograph, but with the pleasure of paying attention. Over three days in the Aravallis, you will learn how to make the most of your phone, DSLR or mirrorless camera, with guidance that makes sense even if you have never moved beyond automatic mode.
There will be time in the forest, early starts for birds and
good light, and practical sessions where you can ask the questions you have
always meant to ask. You will try photographing small details on a nature
trail, work with the fading light at sunset and attempt the night sky after
dark. Later, over a meal or around the bonfire, you will discover that everyone
noticed something different.
You do not have to arrive as a photographer. Just bring a
little curiosity and something to take pictures with.
A little more than a photography workshop
Sariska has a way of slowing you down. Beyond its reputation
for tigers, the reserve has rocky hills, wooded stretches, birds, deer and
unexpected little scenes that reward a second look. There is plenty to
photograph even when the big cats decide to stay out of sight.
Your mentor will cover the basics of composition, light and exposure, followed by techniques for photographing wildlife and birds from a moving safari vehicle. You will also learn simple editing skills in Snapseed and Lightroom so the photographs you bring home look closer to the moments you remember.
And because a Salori trip is as much about the company as
the activity, there is room for conversations, shared meals and a quieter start
to the final day with sunrise yoga. We will finish by putting together a small
display of everyone’s favourite pictures. No pressure to be the best in the
room. The fun is in seeing how differently people see the same place.
